The Samburu Project has an incredible story. Founded in 2005 by Kristen Kosinski who, after leaving a successful career in the entertainment industry, found her calling while living among The Samburu women in Kenya. Kristen soon realized that these women faced daily struggles that could be easily eliminated by the presence of something that most of us take for granted - clean water. The fact that access to clean water was limited meant that it would take hours to walk to find clean water - and the reality was that women and young girls were the ones doing this job.

Within the first year of conception, The Samburu Project set a goal to drilling 25 wells in the Samburu region and is now only 3 wells away from completing that goal. The impact that these wells have had on the lives of people in the villages is life changing. Now that there is water, we have seen enrollment of girls in school increase by roughly 200%. Before the wells were drilled, there were approximately 75 women with registered businesses in the district - now there are 700.

Women are the heart of a community. Water gives these communities the ability to thrive because of the opportunities that it affords women and young girls. And because of that, it doesn’t just end with water. Once clean water is available, so many more doors are open for economic and community development. Clean water also dramatically increases the overall health of a community; begetting happy and productive citizens.

So, what do you have to do with any of this?

This is your chance to experience life in another way - as it is for millions of people around the world. A chance to leave the classroom behind with the professors who drone on about all the problems in the world and actually do something about them. Be a part of making real change happen in the lives of others. Immerse yourself in an environment from which you can learn so much more than you can ever teach.
